His latest mini album blossom is a musical offering straight from the bright blossoms of spring. This mini album was released on May 7, 2024 with six tracks. blossom presents the idea of love, joy and the idea of a shoulder to rest on. Let’s take a closer look at each of these tracks.
1. MARS
When you first hear the title, you may be reminded of John Gray’s best-selling non-fiction book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. In this song we find DO’s lyrics in which he claims that he is from Mars and his lover is from Venus. DO’s song is simply a lover’s anxious worry about meeting his partner – “After some time/I know it’s just a little worry/I’ll be by your side/I hope little by little we’ll become more alike.”. The song features minimal instruments – guitar sounds and percussions – which give the song an acoustic feel.
Simple pleasures is a simple folk track that expresses the simple joys in life. It creates a connection to romance, as DO’s singing is accompanied by melodious flute tones. This song transports listeners to the fields of flowering grasses that sway gently in the wind.
3. POPCORN
‘Popcorn’ is the pre-single of this mini-album. Who would have thought that popcorn, mostly compared to movies, would be used to illustrate the sounds of one’s heartbeat? Trust DO to find similarities in things we would easily miss. ‘Popcorn’ is a succinct and breezy dance-pop number that is sure to have you dancing to the beat. It’s quite delightful to watch DO go about his business, hastily preparing for a video chat and daydreaming in the music video. The music video features pastel yellow and white tones that only reinforce the idea of popping popcorn.
The B-side of DO’s mini-album begins from here ‘Blossom’. Good night is a track that calms listeners. The song meanders through a soothing melody accompanied by the deep timbre of DO’s vocals. Ups and downs are a part of life and this song tries to do that
5. MY DEAR
‘My darling’ is a sweet confessional song. A simple acoustic guitar melody is paired with gentle percussion hits. DO resorts to a more breathy vocal style in this piece as it evokes feelings that are close to and dear to his heart. The song promises not to let go. It speaks of a reality where things won’t always be like they are in a movie, but there is a heartfelt expression that the mundane must not lose its magic.
6. ABOUT TIME
blossom ends with a heartbreaking ballad “Over time”. The song is a lament about separation from a loved one. It is an expression of regret and recognition of past mistakes. DO switches to belting out a few high notes in this song to highlight the depth of emotion expressed in the song.
