Ethan Hawke‘s surprise cameo appearance Taylor SwiftThe new music video appears to have had an unexpected effect on his daughters.
The 53-year-old actor makes a brief appearance alongside his long-time friend and Society of Dead Poets Co-starJosh Charles, in Swift’s visual for “Fortnite (with Post Malone).” The song serves as the lead single from Swift’s 11th studio album. The Tortured Poets Department, with the singer making a subtle reference to the 1989 film of the same name.
At an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert On Monday, Hawke confirmed that he had signed a non-disclosure agreement before taking part in the top-secret project. Therefore, even his own daughters did not know about the role in advance.
“Tell my teenage daughters that I’m going to meet Taylor and everyone at school will know,” he said. “When they found out, the look on their faces was one of deep disappointment.”
Hawke is the father of four children, including a 25-year-old Stranger Things star Maya Hawke and 22-year-old Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke – both of whom he shares with his ex-wife, Uma Thurman. He also shares 15-year-old Clementine Jane Hawke and 12-year-old Indiana Hawke with his wife Ryan Shawhughes Hawke.
The childhood Star said his youngest daughters were unimpressed by Swift’s interest in their father’s work.
“‘Don’t take care of my father. My dad is an idiot,'” he joked. “‘You should call me!’ You know?”
host Stephen Colbert could understand that and responded with: “I was there.”
“Taylor is one of them, you know?” Hawke continued. “I can’t have that with them. So I had to approach it cautiously.”
Hawke admitted that traveling with Charles to Swift’s music video set was a wild experience.
“[You] I can’t imagine what it’s like to walk through an airport with a friend you’ve known for 35 years and grown up with and watch all the young people at the airport with their friends Epochs [Tour] “Sweatshirts on and their Taylor Swift stuff and we have something to go with it,” he admitted. “We’re going to meet the queen ourselves now!”
When they arrived, Hawke said the pals had been “laughing at ourselves all day”.
He confessed: “We felt like the biggest rock stars in the world.”
Hawke is currently promoting his latest directorial film. In Wild catHawke’s daughter Maya plays American writer Flannery O’Connor in the midst of her battle with lupus while working to publish her debut novel.
“It gave Maya and I a real experience [opportunity]”, a meeting place,” he said of their shared love of O’Connor’s work. “Because Flannery asks a lot of deep questions, very serious questions, that she doesn’t answer.”
In a recent interview with ETthe father-daughter duo talked about the project and the popular label “Nepo Baby”.
“We all often swim in similar rivers to our family throughout human history,” Ethan said. “Your generation gets a lot of criticism for this expression, which seems somehow derogatory, this Nepo child, and I would like to position myself as a Nepo father.”
Maya chimed in, “I think the criticism of the kids has to do with access and opportunity, and that’s why I’m hesitant, although I appreciate the humorous acknowledgment of our process.”
Wild cat It is scheduled for release on May 3rd after debuting at last year’s Telluride Film Festival.
