Formula 1 will travel to Europe for the first time in 2024 when the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix returns to Imola.
Last year’s race was canceled due to flooding in northern Italy, but there should be no problems next weekend as McLaren and Lando Norris will look to repeat their victory from Miami.
Norris has finished on the podium at Imola twice in his F1 career, including on the championship’s last visit in 2022.
Max Verstappen won that race and two years later is still the driver to beat as he leads the Drivers’ Championship by 33 points over Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.
Charles Leclerc is 38 points behind Verstappen, Norris and Carlos Sainz are each 43 points behind the reigning world champion.
Ferrari is 52 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ championship but has a big upgrade ahead of it for its first home race of the year.
Should it work out, Leclerc and Sainz will fancy their chances of seriously challenging Verstappen on a track the drivers love.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is not a sprint weekend, so the usual format will take place with qualifying on Saturday and the main race on Sunday.
Formula 2 and Formula 3 also race at Imola, while Indy 500 qualifying also takes place in Indianapolis ahead of the big race at the Brickyard on May 26th.
