Dean McDermott is sober and remains positive despite his divorce Tori spelling.
On April 9th the Chopped Canada alum shared a message about sobriety on Instagram, saying, “If you just stayed sober today, you’re still winning. Go on like that.”
In the caption, McDermott wrote: “I’m proud of you. Nuff Said!! #cleanandsober #thesoberlife 🙏🤟”
In an open interview with the Daily Mail In November 2023, McDermott revealed his battle with sobriety. He admitted that his substance abuse issues were a major factor in his breakup with spelling.
“Alcohol made me feel good. “I started feeling good enough until I reached a point where that wasn’t the case anymore — I ended up in isolation,” he told the outlet. “I ended up drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of drugs [prescription meds] alone with a beautiful family in the other room.
He continued, “That’s what led to this, and that’s what led to the brokenness and what happened between me and Tori. Yelling.”
McDermott added that spelling was a support and encouraged him to seek treatment.

Spelling and McDermott are parents to children Liam (17), Stella (15), Hattie (12), Finn (11) and Beau (7). McDermott is also the father of Jack, 24, from a previous relationship.

“I’m not going to lie, there are moments where I think, ‘Should I have stayed?’ What are the long-term consequences for the children if they stay in a marriage where they have a family, they live in the same house, everything is fine, there is fluidity, but there is so much unhappiness, so much anger? ‘” The 50-year-old actress reflected on an episode of hers spelling mistake Podcast. “At what point does it become worth having to go through this process of them being separated and going to different parents? I don’t know it. I didn’t know the answer until I was there.”
Both Beverly Hills, 90210 star and the 57-year-old Canadian actor have moved on in the love department.
“There are still times where I’m like, ‘Oh…’ because we have family dinners with Dean and his girlfriend,” Spelling revealed. “I really like her. I like Lily very much. It’s just different.”

“Dean is a very handsome man. That has never changed. I think there was just so much resentment built up that I couldn’t go back to it,” Spelling said on her podcast.
She also shared her newfound belief that she believes not everyone should end up with their co-parent.
“I don’t know if I think everyone should end up with the person they have children with. I just don’t know if that’s ultimately possible,” she said, adding that children “break a relationship.”
“I believe that we now have two soulmates or two partners that we should have – one for this chapter and one for our chapter,” she noted.
As for Spelling’s love life, she is dating Ryan Cramer, whom she loves got discovered out in November. “The dean is still meeting with Lily and Tori feels comfortable and neutral about it. She’s still doing her own thing and seeing Ryan, but he’s a guy who’s barely known,” a source told ET.
“Tori filing for divorce from Dean was no surprise to either of them. “You have both done everything right in the last few years and put a plan into action,” he said Source aadded. “They wanted to make sure they were both cared for individually and also as co-parents. It’s not a volatile situation on either side and things are actually pretty cordial between them. Your situation as co-parents is fine and will continue to get better.”
