Tristan Stubbs produced one of the best fielding moments of IPL 2024 as he saved 5 of the 6 possible runs that could have been scored against Rasikh Salem. This particular save proved to be a game-changer for Delhi Capitals as these five runs saved them from defeat in the sixth league game of the season.
DC’s first inning with the bat underway
Tristan Stubbs’ shot could have been much more sensational if he had converted that field attempt into a catch, but it was still a great save. After the first innings blitz where Rishabh Pant showed his true colors against GT’s bowling attack in front of the home fans, GT’s chase of 225 runs was very close.
Gujarat captain Shubman Gill had won the toss and elected to bowl first on a flat face in the state capital. DC started positively as Jake Fraser-McGurk gave them the lead with a flyer on the powerplay before he and Prithvi Shaw retired in succession. Delhi’s move to send Axar Patel at number 3 worked wonders as the all-rounder decided the innings with his composure and reliability.
Then, after Shai Hope’s dismissal at 5 out of 6, Rishabh Pant entered the crease to help his side put at least 200 points on the board. After a few overs of slow batting, Pant and Axar started to pick up the run rate and eventually formed a 113-run partnership before the latter was bowled out for 66 off 43.
Rishabh Pant then found the support of Tristan Stubbs and the duo took Delhi from 157 to a total of 224. Pant accelerated his innings brilliantly towards the end while Stubbs scored a quick 26 not out with 3 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of over 350 .

In the 19th over of the 2nd innings, with GT trailing by 7 and needing 31 runs from 10, Tristan Stubbs prevented Rashid Khan from hitting a six. After conceding a wide and 4 runs, Rasikh Salam threw a length to Rashid, who sent the ball over the fence with a powerful long-on.
However, Tristan Stubbs was there at the right time. The South African had timed his jump perfectly as he initially grabbed the ball with both hands before realizing he was about to cross the line. Stubbs instinctively threw the ball into the ground with his right hand and ultimately saved the decisive five runs.
All the DC fans in the stadium had their hearts pouring out of their mouths when they saw Rashid Khan’s powerful punch. But Tristan Stubbs became ‘Super Stubbs’ with this performance, which ultimately helped Delhi Capitals clinch the double against the 2022 champions.
Rishabh Pant emerges as man of the match
With match number 40 ending in Delhi Capitals’ favour, skipper Rishabh Pant was adjudged man of the match for his impressive 88 off 43. His hits included 5 fours and 8 sixes and with this MOTM award, Spiderman became the first IPL captain in 2024 to win the 2 Man of the Match award.
