DC vs GT: “There is No Point in Making Any Plans” – Shubman Gill Loses After a Narrow Defeat to His Gujarat Teammates

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill praised his teammates’ brave fight in the recently concluded match against Delhi Capitals. Although GT ended up losing the game by four runs, their captain praised his teammates for their performance.

After 225 runs, GT looked all but out of the game when they were reduced to 152 for 6 in the 16th over. But players like David Miller, Rashid Khan and R. Sai Kishore showed valiant efforts and almost took GT over the finish line. In the end, the Gujarat-based team ended their innings at 220/8.

In the 17th over, Miller completed a 21-ball fifty by smashing Anrich Nortje for 24 runs, including three sixes and a four. After being dismissed in the 18th over, Rashid and Kishore collected 18 runs in the 19th over bowled by Rasikh Salam. In the last over, Rashid hit Mukesh Kumar for two fours and a six but could not score the required 19 runs to take his team over the finish line.

Earlier in the game, half-centuries from Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel helped DC recover from 44 for 3 to post a whopping total of 224 for 4 in 20 overs. Pant remained unbeaten with the help of five fours and eight sixes for 88 runs off just 43 balls. Axar, on the other hand, scored 66 runs.

“I thought we played really good cricket, it was disappointing that we lost in the end but everyone showed great character. Great fight until the end and at no point did we think we would be out of the game. When chasing 224, “There’s no point in talking about plans, you just go out and score.” said Shubman Gill after the defeat.

Shubman Gill on poor finish with the ball:

Furthermore, Shubman Gill regretted that his team failed to finish strongly with the ball. In the last three overs, DC scored as many as 67 runs, including 31 runs in the final over bowled by Mohit Sharma. At the same time, the GT captain wasn’t particularly hard on his teammates, pointing out that there was very little room for error on the “smaller ground.”

“At one point we thought we could restrict them to 200-210 but we gave away some extra runs in the last 2-3 overs. But this is a smaller ground, we talked about it when we were eliminated.”

“Execution becomes very important. If there is a set hitter or a finisher, you have to execute it well. It’s fine if there’s something in the wicket, but on pitches like this you have to make sure you execute everything.” “Plans perfect, be it the yorkers or the variations,” said Shubman Gill.
