Check Out the Bentley Bentayga Apex Edition

The Bentayga S should be a more than adequate Bentley SUV for most, with 550 horsepower from its twin-turbo V8, rear-axle steering and active anti-roll technology. However, for those who need more, Bentley now offers this: the Apex Edition of Mulliner, nothing less than the “most dynamic and driving Bentayga ever”.

Interestingly, there is no more performance, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t significant changes. Because this is a Bentley on carbon rims – you read that right. The 22-inch wheels are a collaboration with Bucci Composites and each save a whopping six kilos of unsprung mass compared to the standard equipment; Additionally, Bentley claims that a forged aluminum wheel can lose some degree of camber due to flexing, which is not the case with a super strong carbon wheel. Just don’t even think about harm coming to them.

Behind the new wheels are carbon-silicon carbide discs, which offer improved braking performance compared to standard, can withstand temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees and contribute to further useful weight savings – saving 20kg compared to iron discs. So that’s a total of 44kg, all unsprung, which could have a transformative effect on the Bentayga S experience by shedding a few kilos of weight. Highlights of the Apex Editions include (in case the wheels aren’t telltale enough) satin carbon accents on the outside, including badges, as well as a few other model-specific highlights on the inside.

As for color choices, there are six “curated themes by Mulliner” available, which seems more than generous considering only 20 Apex editions will be made. And there are actually seven, because anyone who was lucky enough to get a Le Mans Edition GT or GTC last year can get their Bentayga with the corresponding equipment.

Otherwise you can choose from: Extreme Silver with Beluga stripes and Signal Yellow pinstripes, Pale Brodgar with Anthracite stripes and Bacalar Bronze pinstripes, Alpine Green with matching stripes and orange pinstripes, Candy Red with Anthracite/Arctic White stripes and Arctic White -Pinstripe, Anthracite with Black Stripe or Orange Flame. We’d look at interior variants, but you get the idea: there’s something for everyone here, not least with additional personalization to boot.

With only 20 examples available worldwide, the Apex Edition will be an incredible rarity even by Bentley standards. There’s no price yet for any market, but suffice it to say that 22-inch carbon wheels and huge ceramic brakes aren’t cheap in any context – let alone an extremely limited edition. And you’re probably late anyway.
