Captain Lee Rosbach revealed some interesting details about how much charter guests spent – or notably didn’t spend – during the first season of Under deck.

“When we first started the series, it was so unknown,” he said Under deck alum, 74, recalled during the Thursday, April 25, episode TJ Holmes And Amy Robach’s “Amy and TJ” podcast. “I’m not saying no one knew what they were doing, but no one had filmed charter guests on a moving boat with all the crew, camera crew and audio techs and everything we had to have on board. This had never happened before.”

Because the experience was so new, potential guests had the opportunity to charter the boat for free. “We actually didn’t charge anyone for the charter,” Lee revealed.

This decision quickly led to problems for the crew. “Then we ran into a problem because we weren’t charging anyone for the charter fees,” Lee noted. “If they had no stake in the game, they would find a bigger, better deal at the last minute and not show up.”

He continued: “Then we have to fill four days without guests. We started charging – they got a heavily adjusted rate. It was really a great offer for them.”
