Sonakshi Sinha is making headlines with her upcoming role in the highly anticipated web series Heeramandi. The actress, who plays the mesmerizing character Fareedan, recently shared her experience of working with renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sonakshi Sinha, who has previously worked with acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in several successful projects, recently spoke to Hindustan Times about her experience as Fareedan in Heeramandi. This is their first collaboration in a web series and adds a new dimension to their professional relationship.
As Sonakshi said in the interview, “This is a character I have been waiting for for a very long time.” I always wanted to play a slightly negative, slightly villainous character and I am grateful to Sanjay for seeing me in this role. I don’t know how or why, but I guess it’s just because of his trust in me as an actor that I can do it. For an actor, it’s motivating when a director like him imagines you and tries to portray you in a way that no one has ever seen before. That’s why I’m so grateful. It was one of my favorite characters that I played on screen.”
Sonakshi acknowledged with deep gratitude that Sanjay Leela Bhansali gave her a remarkable opportunity by casting Fareedan role. She further added, “The character is a complete ‘Mirchi’. Wherever she goes, she adds spice.”
Reflecting on her artistic journey, Sonakshi Sinha shared that for the last seven or eight years, she has strived to portray a diverse range of roles and portray strong female characters on screen. She took the initiative to explore other genres with films like Akira and move away from the typical masala potboilers and commercials. Her transition from mainstream Bollywood to the digital platform with projects like Heeramandi shows her versatility and commitment to bringing unique and outstanding characters to life.
Sonakshi Sinha humbly acknowledged her good fortune and shared that she has been blessed with two significant projects, from her first OTT release ‘Dahaad’ to her upcoming series ‘Heeramandi’. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to portray two beautiful characters in this series and considered herself very lucky. She promised to continue her efforts to bring strong female leads to audiences and surprise them with her diverse performances.

Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman and Taha Shah also play important roles in the series. The Netflix series “Heeramandi” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1st.
