Talking about social media and the perception it builds, Tanisha Mukerji said, “I think filters on social media are fun. It’s nice as long as you don’t take it too seriously. There’s an image perception that changes, like I’m looking at myself in the mirror and I’m changing through the filter, and then I think I need a nose job or I want to get eye bags removed or Botox fillers because I’m like that person filter would like to look like. I think it’s scary and dangerous for the children. Ultimately, I have six nephews and nieces who go to school. And it’s scary that they look at their faces through the lens of the camera or these filters and look at their true selves through the mirror. The perception is distorted.”
She added: “I think it’s important to put filters in the right context, especially for the youth of this country. “Because social media is so viral, the conversations should be about you being beautiful.”
Reminiscing about her sister Kajol from her earlier days, she said, “I remember when Kajol first appeared on screen, I remember there were so many conversations around her unibrow. But Kajol didn’t remove it. She was like, “No, why should I change?” “I’m beautiful the way I am.” And that became her trademark. And it still exists and it still hasn’t threaded her unibrow. In time, the world will accept you and yourself.”
She continued: “I think it’s important to keep your identity strong; Make your identity with intelligence, your values and your integrity and don’t create that identity just based on your face.”
