Captain Lee Rosbach doesn’t regret his time much Under deckbut there is one person he wishes he hadn’t let go of.
“[I fired] everyone who deserves it. I think I’ve fired at most four in a season,” Lee, 74, joked on the episode of ” TJ Holmes And Amy RobachAmy and TJ Podcast. “But there is only one person I fired and I regretted it. But not for the reasons you might think.”
Lee named Andrew Sturby As of season 2, he is the only crew member he feels guilty about firing.
“He had embellished his resume, which is another word for lying. And he was such a nice boy and he tried so hard,” the captain recalled. “But never in a million years would he get it. In my opinion, you have to have it to function on a megayacht.”
Lee continued: “He did [have a good heart]. And I said, “Andrew, this really breaks my heart and I hate doing this to you.” But you’re just too much of a risk and I don’t have the time to really train you.” What I actually meant was: ‘If I had a million years, you’d never have them.'”
Although he wished Andrew’s time at Honor would end differently, Lee stood behind his other on-screen shots.
“I think that’s the only thing I really regret. There were some that I enjoyed and I really did,” Lee added. “There is something satisfying about being able to do something good for people who desperately deserve what is owed to them. I don’t feel bad about it.”
Andrew’s skills as a deckhand were questioned when he appeared on the show in 2014. He raised alarm bells when he didn’t have basic boating knowledge – including the fact that portholes shouldn’t be opened at sea.
Andrew eventually admitted to Lee that he had lied on his resume and had no yachting experience. He was given the chance to prove his worth, but it didn’t work out and the captain eventually fired him.
“I wasn’t surprised that the crew wanted me released. I would have wanted the same thing if I was in her position,” Andrew said in a 2014 interview with BravoTV. “The Ohana [boat] There was no place where anyone not used to intense work could cut their teeth. There is too much to do and not enough time to get used to the demanding work environment and learn the job. In my defense, if I had been much less anxious, I would have been able to adapt more quickly.”
Andrew is far from the only person whose resume has been called into question on the reality show. The final season of Below deck Mediterraneanwhich aired earlier this year, introduced viewers to Bosun Ruan Irvingwho was reported for presenting a “non-certified” medical license.
While he was waiting for his original documents to be sent to the boat, Captain Sandy Yawn It was brought to our attention that Ruans Yachtmasters had attached someone else’s photo. Ruan promised to sort out his paperwork but never came back.
After the episode aired, Sandy continued Watch what happens live with Andy Cohen in October 2023 that she believed Ruan knew his documents were forged. “I hadn’t [spoken with him]”,” she told a fan during the aftershow. “NO, [I wouldn’t work with him]. Not in a million years. No sorry.”
