A man in Massachusetts died after losing control of his car crashed into a group of trees in western Massachusetts over the weekend. To make his fatal injuries even worse, a bear came by and tried to drag his body away, police report.

Daniel Ducharme of South Hadley, Massachusetts, likely died from his injuries when his 2016 Honda Civic left Route 91 and crashed into a thicket of trees. Investigators believe that Ducharme was completely or partially ejected from his vehicle in the accident. We’re not sure how his body ended up outside of his crashed Civic, because it looks like a damn bear came by and tried to drag him home as a snack.

It is unclear what caused the crash CBS Bostonand previous reports of the bear’s involvement were initially deleted before being confirmed by the Massachusetts State Police:

“When first responders arrived on the scene, the deceased male occupant was outside the car and a bear was observed in the woods near the scene,” a State Police statement said. “There is evidence that the bear had contact with the victim’s body at some point.”

The bear fled the area while police were on scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Ducharme was the only person in the car. According to police, he somehow lost control of the car, hit the guardrail several times and went off the right side of the road. He fell down an embankment before crashing into several trees, police said.

Bears pose a greater danger to parked cars than to crashed ones. Clever Black bears have learned that cars often contain foodwhat leads to them Burglary into vehicles and sometimes be locked inside. Scientists believe this is because bears don’t have thumbs and therefore can’t use a keychain.

Ladies, I know there’s a question on the internet right now: Would you rather meet a bear or a strange man alone in the woods? Many women have chosen our bear friends (and who could blame them), but a bear you definitely don’t want to meet is one who has taken a liking to people and understands that cars contain tasty things. Luckily, this bear was only a black bear, which can be easily scared away with loud noises and an assertive demeanor. If only men were that easy to dissuade.
