Bangkok 2024: Bookings Open for GAC Aion Hyper HT – EV SUV in Thailand for RM260,000; Hyper GT Shown – Paultan.org

GAC Aion Hyper HT

At the recently concluded Bangkok International Motor Show, GAC Aion showcased two models in its Hyper series, namely the Hyper GT and the HT. We’ll focus on the latter first, which was available for pre-order at the event at an introductory price of around 1,999,900 baht (approximately RM260,000) for the Ultra version.

The Hyper HT is an all-electric SUV that was launched in China last November as the third member of the Hyper series after the Hyper GT and Hyper SSR. It is a relatively large five-seater vehicle with a length of 4,935 mm, a width of 1,920 mm, a height of 1,700 mm and a wheelbase of 2,935 mm.

This makes it slightly smaller than the Tesla Model X, and like that electric vehicle (EV), the Hyper HT is available with rear gullwing doors. Inside there’s an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen – both powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P chipset. A sensor suite (with optional lidar) supports ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and more.

In China, the SUV is only available with rear-wheel drive and different battery capacities and ranges. The smallest battery available is a 70kWh unit paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 245hp (241hp or 180kW) and 355Nm of torque for a range of 550km as per CLTC standard. Next on the list is a 72.7kWh battery with the same 180kW motor for 600km range.

The third option is an 80kWh battery coupled exclusively to a 340hp (335hp or 250kW) and 430Nm electric motor – with this setup the range is 670km. The final option offers the longest range at 770 km and combines the 250 kW motor with an even larger 93 kWh battery. 0-100 km/h times are either 5.8 seconds (670 km range), 6.2 seconds (770 km) or 6.8 seconds (550 and 660 km variants).

Of note are the versions of the Hyper HT with 180 kW motor and battery capacities below 80 kWh, which use a 400 V architecture, while all others use an 800 V architecture. The Chinese carmaker claims that these 400V variants will achieve a range of 140km with just 10 minutes of charging.

The Hyper HT also supports quick battery changes, but only for the variant with a 550 km range. For the 800V variants, those with a range of 670km can regain 415km in just 15 minutes plugged in, while the 770km option takes 10 minutes to cover 450km.

As for the Hyper GT, the all-electric sedan was launched in China at the end of October last year and measures 4,886 mm long, 1,885 mm wide, 1,449 mm high and has a 2,920 mm wheelbase. The powertrain range is simpler with only three battery options offered, starting with a 60kWh unit for a CLTC range of 560km, followed by a 70kWh unit with a 600km range.

Both the 60 and 70 kWh units are equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor with an output of 245 hp (241 hp or 180 kW) and a torque of 355 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h possible in 6.5 seconds. The final battery is an 80 kWh unit that offers a range of 710 km and is equipped with an electric motor producing 340 hp (335 hp or 250 kW) and 430 Nm for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds is coupled.

Like the Hyper HT, the Hyper GT also supports battery replacement, but only for the 70 kWh variant. The company says 80kWh variants come with “high-voltage overcharging technology,” which presumably means they feature 800V architecture and can travel 450km with just 15 minutes of charging.

Certain trim levels of the Hyper GT feature front butterfly doors, but the entire range features the same dual-screen setup and Qualcomm chipset as the Hyper HT. The sedan also gets the ADiGO Pilot suite of ADAS features in versions 3.0 or 4.0, which is a step down from the Hyper HT with version 5.0.
