Arsenal and Manchester City are aware that Newcastle United will listen to offers of more than £80million for Bruno Guimaraes this summer, sources said 90min.
Both the Gunners and Cityzens are looking for a midfielder for the 2024/25 season 90min reported last week that Guimaraes was an option for them.
Although Guimaraes’ contract contains a £100 million release clause, 90min revealed that there is a verbal agreement between club and player to listen to offers of £80 million from clubs competing in the Champions League.
90min Now it is clear that both Arsenal and City have learned of this lower valuation of Guimaraes, although they are not the only teams interested in his services.
Paris Saint-Germain is also an admirer of the Brazilian international. There have been doubts over whether PSG’s Qatari owners would be able to negotiate with Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian club bosses, but it is understood this would not prevent a deal being negotiated.
PSG, for example, accepted a world record offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal for Kylian Mbappe last summer, but the striker resisted a move from Parc des Princes. PSG managed to sell Neymar to Al Hilal without such problems.
And if Newcastle refused to play with Guimaraes, PSG could invoke their release clause over their heads – they are one of the few clubs who can afford to do so this summer. PSG are also considering City’s Bernardo Silva as another midfield option.
Newcastle need to raise £35m to £50m through player sales to address concerns about breaching the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) and they would rather sell one player for a higher fee than sell multiple players for smaller amounts.
They are keen to retain star striker Alexander Isak, who is also of interest to Arsenal, meaning Guimaraes is more likely to be sold, while England international Callum Wilson could also be moved.
Guimaraes has made 101 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Lyon in 2022, further establishing himself in the Brazilian national team and cementing his status as one of the Premier League’s best and most tactically flexible midfielders. Of course, the Magpies would like to keep Guimaraes and he has settled in the North East so he won’t necessarily force a departure this summer, but he may not have to miss out as Newcastle need to raise funds.
