Apparently the law doesn't apply to this New York prosecutor who knocked down cops during a traffic stop

  • During a traffic stop, District Attorney Sandra Doorley failed to stop for police until they reached her home.
  • When officers contacted her, she told them she understood the law better than they did.
  • Now she has released an apology and explained that she is disciplining herself through several measures.

When people fail to stop for the police, it often ends badly for them. In the case of New York District Attorney Sandra Doorley, it looks like the court is about to deal the hardest blow to public opinion. After failing to stop for the police, she parked in her garage, got into an argument, and then walked in with nothing more than a speeding ticket.

An officer initially attempted to stop Prosecutor Doorley for driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Instead of following the officer’s instructions, she ignored him and drove home. During that ride, she called the police chief and reportedly asked him, “Can you please tell him?” [the officer at her home] to leave me alone?”

Bodycam footage from the traffic stop shows several officers talking to Doorley and trying to understand the situation. “So why didn’t you just stop,” an officer asks. “Because I didn’t feel like stopping on Phillips Road,” Doorley says. The officer responds that it’s “not your decision” before the prosecutor says, “I made it my decision,” and later tells him, “I understand the law better than you.”

Ultimately, after a nearly twenty-minute exchange, the officer who initiated the stop simply gives Doorley a ticket and closes the matter. As a result, the Rochester City Council has asked the district attorney’s office to investigate the stop. “This incident has led us to question her fitness to serve as district attorney and we believe an investigation by your office is warranted,” the council said in a letter to the AG, according to People.com.

In response, Doorley released an apology video outlining both her reasoning during the stop and her actions to make things “right.” She blames the stressful day for her behavior, but also says she takes full responsibility for what happened.

“I just came from work,” she apologized. “I had to deal with three murders that had occurred over the weekend, I watched a video of an innocent taxi driver being executed, and I was still suffering from the anxiety of a frightening medical concern my husband had that day afternoon.”

She added: “But we all have bad days and stress, and it was wrong of me to take it out on an officer who was just doing his job. “If any of my deputy prosecutors had acted like that, I would have disciplined him. So I discipline myself. I will take ethics training to remind myself that professionalism is important.”

Additionally, she has pleaded guilty to speeding and will refer the matter to another prosecutor
