Anthropic takes up the fight OpenAI on Wednesday with a new iOS app for him powerful Claude AI. The app will put Claude in more hands and try to take some space in the AI market ChatGPT already dominates.
“We are facing a paradigm shift in the way companies and individuals interact with AI,” Daniela Amodei, co-founder and president of Anthropic, said in a press release. “The Team Plan and Claude iOS app are the first steps toward realizing this vision and mark the beginning of a transformative journey that will redefine the nature of work.”
Anthropic’s latest AI chatbot, Claude 3, set a new gold standard for artificial intelligence when it was released in March. The powerful AI has replaced OpenAI’s GPT-4 as the industry leader for several important benchmarks. With Wednesday’s update, Anthropic is now making it easier for people to use this technology in their everyday lives. Until now, most people have only been able to use Claude through a website.
“People are asking about it,” said Scott White, product manager at Anthropic, in an interview with Gizmodo. “I view these models as the wise partner you can turn to when you need help solving challenging problems in your life, whether at work or at home.”
Claude will be available as a free iOS app that syncs with your accounts. The app will have vision capabilities, allowing users to take photos on their iPhones and perform real-time image analysis. Anthropic’s new app will make it easier for people to access Claude anywhere.
As for Anthropic’s new Team plan, organizations can now purchase a shared Claude 3 account for their entire workforce. The subscription costs $30 per user per month. In the coming weeks, Anthropic will also release collaboration features that will integrate Claude into the company’s data stores and allow teammates to work together on AI-generated projects.
“Many people agree with our view of safety,” White said. “People want to work with a company that values safety and responsibility extremely highly. We are pleased to be at the forefront of this.”
Anthropic argues that Claude is less of a tool and more of a “trusted partner” who touches every part of your life. Anthropic was founded by OpenAI defectors to focus on security when using artificial intelligence. OpenAI launched the ChatGPT app and ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023, both of which helped establish the chatbot as a household name. Although Claude’s models are just as powerful as ChatGPT, they are far less well known. Anthropic hopes today’s release changes that and introduces Claude to even more faces.
