Tesla Inc. is suing Indian battery maker
The American electric vehicle maker said it had sent a “cease and desist” letter to Indian battery maker Tesla Power. However, the company ignored this advice. According to reports, the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and a permanent injunction against the Indian company.
According to available information, Tesla accused the Indian battery manufacturer of using trade names such as “Tesla Power” and “Tesla Power USA” without permission. During the trial, Tesla Inc. presented various evidence. These included screenshots of a website that suggested the Indian company was contacting Tesla Power USA LLC.
The company emphasized in court that the Indian company claimed to have its headquarters in Delaware. And since Tesla itself is incorporated in Delaware, this further strengthened Tesla’s case against the Indian company.
How did the Indian company respond?
During the court hearing, the Indian battery maker argued that its main business was the production of lead-acid batteries. The company added that it has no intention of making electric vehicles.
They argued that their product was not the same as Tesla’s core business. The company claimed it had been operating in India before Tesla. It also stressed that it had received all necessary regulatory approvals. Additionally, they emphasized that they never claimed to be associated with Elon Musk’s Tesla.

The judge responsible gave the Indian company three weeks to submit a written response. The current ruling has given the Indian company time to collect evidence to defend itself. The next hearing is scheduled for May 22nd. On this day, both parties will present their arguments and evidence in court.
