  • Acura’s U.S. sales fell 12.5% in the first four months of 2024 compared to 2023.
  • The brand’s sedans, particularly the TLX (-40.2%) and the Integra (-20.6%), saw significant declines.
  • The RDX SUV is the only Acura model to see a sales increase (43.3%) so far this year.

Acura’s US sales figures for the first four months of 2024 are in and paint a bleak picture. The figures, which are far below expectations, raise questions about the brand’s current development. Let’s delve deeper and see what could be behind this decline in sales.

In the first four months of this year, Acura sold 40,917 vehicles in the U.S., down 12.5% from the same period in 2023. This included 12,099 cars and 28,817 SUVs/trucks, with car sales declining 26.2%. Unfortunately, April brought even more challenges for Acura.

Last month, the automaker sold 10,544 vehicles, down 20.7% compared to April 2023, with sales of its passenger cars down 40% and those of SUVs/trucks down 9.3%. Even though there was one less selling day in April 2024 than in April 2023, taking this into account, sales still fell by 17.6%.

Demand for the Acura Integra fell a significant 26.1% to 2,413 units in April, compared to 3,394 in April last year. In the January-April period, Integra shipments fell 20.6%, accounting for one fewer day of sales.

Sales of the Acura TLX have plummeted even further this year. Acura sold 3,201 units, down 40.2% compared to the same period in 2023. April saw an even steeper decline as only 571 TLX units were sold nationwide, a staggering 62.3% decline from April 2023.

Acura’s best-selling model, the MDX, continues to hold its own, although demand for this near-premium SUV is also beginning to decline. So far this year, 15,242 units have been sold, down 28.1% compared to the 20,981 units sold last year. However, there is a glimmer of good news for Acura.

Sales of the RDX are up 43.3% this year to a total of 13,576 units. This growth is notable, especially given the discontinuation of the cheaper front-wheel drive model and increased prices.

Honda sales are rising

While Acura has struggled with declining sales this year, the same can’t be said for Honda. In fact, Honda’s sales rose 15.7% to 409,493 units. Although demand for models such as Accord, Odyssey, Passport and Ridgeline declined, increased sales of Civic, CR-V, HR-V and Pilot were significant enough to offset these declines.
