Aaron Sorkin has announced that he is currently writing a follow-up script The social network, . He broke the news during an episode of The city Podcast that focused on how he’s felt in the years since his Oscar-winning hit. The first film chronicled the beginnings of Mark Zuckerberg’s social network and starred Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake, among others.
Sorkin is tight-lipped about the actual details of the new script, but appears to be following Facebook throughout the Trump era. He went on to tell the podcast hosts that he actually blames the social media site for the January 6 riots. “Look, yeah, I’m going to write about it,” Sorkin told podcast hosts Matthew Belloni and Peter Hamby. “I blame Facebook for January 6th.”
He gave no reason why he blamed Facebook for the attack on the capital and told the podcast hosts that they needed to “buy a movie ticket.” Facebook, Google, Twitter and Reddit as part of the January 6th investigation. The lawmaker claimed that Facebook got a handle on the “Stop the Steal” movement organized on the platform and only recognized the danger posed by these groups after the violence in D.C.
Whistleblower Frances Haugen told Congress that Facebook was following the 2020 election. She also said that Facebook was aware of its algorithms and platforms and that it “failed to take internally recommended or lasting countermeasures.” According to Haugen, the company prioritized profit over safety.
Sorkin has obviously been following all of this closely, saying in the same interview that “One of the things Facebook has done is tweak its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible. Because that’s what will drive engagement.” He further criticized the company by He pointed out that “at Facebook there is supposedly a constant tension between growth and integrity.” There is not. There’s just growth.”

The script is still in early stages and Sorkin has not announced a partnership with a studio to make the film. It’s not his first attempt to do something like this either. He previously worked entirely on a script centered around January 6th, but it didn’t move forward. It remains to be seen whether some aspects of this script will end up in a sequel The social network, it should actually be done. He told that that he was just pushing to make a sequel The social network if David Fincher were to return to direct.
If a studio actually signs on to this project, which is quite likely given the success of the 2010 film, it raises two glaring questions for me. Can Jesse Eisenberg and what does he think about it?
