One of the most nerve-wracking aspects of regular highway driving is encountering an 18-wheeler and realizing how large and potentially dangerous it can be. Recently, a Chevrolet Corvette C8 driver near Los Angeles, California experienced first-hand something many of us would only have nightmares about.

The driver, reportedly a 77-year-old man, was traveling on a highway in Castaic, north of LA, when his Corvette collided with the back of a large truck. The circumstances that led to the accident remain unknown. However, based on video footage of the aftermath, it appears that the truck may have been standing on the side of the highway when the Chevrolet crashed into it.

After the collision, the sports model, an eighth-generation Corvette with Amplify Orange paint, became trapped under the 18-wheeler’s trailer, prompting several people to call 911, KCAL reported. Unfortunately, due to the position of the vehicle, the Chevy driver was unable to escape the vehicle under his own power.

First responders worked at the scene for more than half an hour, removing parts from the vehicle and tossing them to the side as they tried to create a path to free the man from the damaged car.
Fortunately, the C8 driver survived the initial impact and videos of the rescue attempt show his arm moving inside the vehicle. After he is removed from the sports car, a police officer is seen leaning over the man, apparently trying to understand what the injured driver was saying.
Unfortunately, the 77-year-old’s condition is currently unknown and authorities only stated that he suffered crush injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was reportedly not injured in the incident.
Although it remains unclear what caused the accident, this is a good opportunity to remind drivers not to focus too much on obstacles they want to avoid. We tend to steer into focus, so it’s best to keep our eyes on the road in front of us and not the vehicles parked on the side of the road.
