• Spy photographers have apparently caught a mule for the next-generation Mercedes V-Class/Vito.
  • The redesigned model will ride on the VAN.EA platform, designed for battery electric vehicles.

The Mercedes V-Class/Vito is almost a decade old, but a redesigned model is on the horizon. That’s clear today because spy photographers have captured what looks like a heavily camouflaged mule.

When tested remotely, the van proves that there is no need to believe that a number of features have been carried over from the current model, including the greenhouse and much of the bodywork. However, the van appears to have a modified front section and extended side skirts.

Temporary taillights and an extreme diffuser can also be seen. The fender flares should also be slightly wider than on the current model.

In addition, the van is equipped with a number of sensors, including two located under the mirrors. This isn’t too surprising, as Mercedes has previously hinted that Level 2 semi-autonomous driving technology will be available at launch, while a Level 3 system will be available by the end of the decade.

Commercial variants will be even more advanced, as Mercedes has stated that Level 4 technology is “planned to be realized by [the] “At the end of the decade to realize the business potential of driverless transport.”

Soon on

Little is known about the vans at the moment, but the company has previously suggested that the redesigned V-Class will come to the US and will be even more luxurious than the current model. As the automaker explained last year: “For the first time in both the US and China, Mercedes-Benz Vans aims to offer VAN.EA-based private vans in an unprecedented luxury positioning to better meet the expectations of its discerning customers. “In the USA, Mercedes-Benz Vans will be offering a privately positioned mid-size luxury van for the first time.”

The models will ride on the brand new VAN.EA platform, which will be launched in 2026 for purpose-built battery electric vehicles. Mercedes has already announced that they will be offered with front and rear wheel drive and different battery capacities.
