2025 Ram 1500 RHO: Lighter in Weight, Price and Performance Compared to the TRX – Autoblog

While Stellantis is phasing out its line of Hemi V8 engines, both garden-variety and hellcat variants, Ram is losing its utterly outrageous TRX. But that doesn’t mean it’s done with intense off-road machinery. Although it lacks the outright performance of the TRX, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO delivers on just about everything else. It also offers some major advantages over its larger predecessor.

The biggest difference for the RHO is that it carries over the high-performance version of the Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six from the mainline Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer lines. It’s mostly unchanged, but it breathes through a high-flow filter that draws air from the functional hood scoop, and it has a valve exhaust that lets you choose between quiet and loud options. It makes the same 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque as those other trucks, and that’s obviously a lot less than the TRX’s 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet. But do you know what is less powerful than the hurricane? The standard F-150 Raptor with 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. On top of that, the RHO is still pretty darn fast. It hits 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, just 0.1 behind the TRX, and it does the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds.

Switching to the Hurricane has another advantage: weight. The RHO weighs 150 pounds less than the TRX, and all of the savings come from the front of the truck. There’s a good chance the RHO will turn in quicker than the old V8 engine. It also likely helped improve towing and payload capacity. Towing capacity increases from 8,100 pounds on the TRX to 8,380 pounds on the RHO and payload increases from 1,310 to 1,520 pounds. And these numbers once again surpass the standard Raptor.

The reduced weight does mean Ram had to make some adjustments to the suspension, but beyond that the hardware is the same as the TRX. These include Bilstein adaptive shock absorbers with remote storage, forged front control arms, improved bump stops and plenty of suspension travel. Specifically, the suspension travel is 13 inches at the front and 14 inches at the rear. It also sits on 35-inch tires. Ram engineers said 37-inch tires will technically fit, but if you want to use all the suspension travel, you’ll run into friction issues without additional modification.

There are also small changes inside and out in terms of design and equipment. The RHO receives updated LED lighting and a new grille and bumper, as well as new badges and decals denoting the RHO trim and Hurricane engine. The interior receives similar updates to the regular Ram, with one of the most notable additions being the option of a passenger-side infotainment screen as well as the new full-color HUD. Multi-function switches for adding auxiliary lights are included and new RHO emblems are featured throughout. It also has the option of hands-free highway driving assist like the regular Rams. Customers can choose between Nappa leather or suede upholstery and can add carbon fiber upholstery and red upholstery accents.

The real highlight of the RHO package, however, is the price. It starts at $71,990, So below the six-figure price of the TRX. But more importantly, it’s also significantly cheaper than the F-150 Raptor, which starts at $80,325. The RHO may not have the engine of the TRX, but it basically has everything else and all for a lot less. It seems like Ram has a real winner here.
