2025 BMW I4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe with Fresh Optimizations – Autoblog

The 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the battery-electric 2024 i4 (which is only available as a Gran Coupe) have emerged from the Munich design studio with subtle updates. The new kidney grille surrounds are standard on all trim levels except the upper trims and are available with the optional M Sport package in matt chrome, instead of today’s Satin Aluminum or Cerium Gray colors. More stylish headlights house a single LED module instead of dual beams, and the new DRL design that looks like illuminated quotation marks is making its way across the BMW lineup. When the key holder moves within 3 meters of the car, the lights perform a “welcome” animation.

The top-of-the-line M440i and i4 M50 trims feature full LED headlights, which are optional on the lower trims as part of the Shadowline package. Built into each panel, the taillights are replaced with the laser light units first seen on the BMW M4 CSL. The kidney surrounds are standard on both and in high-gloss black on the M Sport package.

The four- and six-cylinder engines in the 4 Series GC are supported by 48-volt mild hybrid technology. A base 2.0-liter Miller cycle four-cylinder engine has had small internal improvements made to components such as the ignition system and exhaust routing. As today, output is 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the rear tailpipe trims grow from 3.5 inches to 10 inches wide. For the 3.0-liter inline-six, the standard output figures of 375 hp and 398 lb-ft can benefit from an 11 hp boost from the 48V system, increasing output to 386 hp, four hp more than the current one M440i can muster. With the xDrive all-wheel drive version, the 2025 M440i can accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, 0.1 second quicker than before.

The new wheel options include two-tone 20-inch BMW Individual Aero rims for the combustion models with the M Sport package. New palette colors are Cape York Green Metallic and Red Metallic.

A more comprehensive overhaul takes place in the interior, where BMW adds its latest technical details and features to the driving experience for the occupants. The standard steering wheel on all but upper trims is a two-spoke wheel with a polygonal rim. The M Sport package replaces this with a three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom. The M Sport wheels on the upper trims have a red stripe at the 12 o’clock position, on the lower trims with the same package this stripe is black.

In BMW operating system 8.5, the map screen is always displayed on the home screen. UI designers have made entering destinations easier, and in the i4 the navigation system allows the driver to select the desired charge level mid-trip and at the destination in 5% increments. Electric vehicle drivers can also select preferred stations. The route system will stick to these unless there are none available without a lengthy detour. The closer the driver gets to the charging station, the more frequently the system checks the status of available chargers.

BMW’s familiar row of buttons still lines the left side of the screen, and a new QuickSelect feature means a horizontal swipe on some buttons expands a range of related functions. This flattens the menu structure and increases the number of menu options available on the home screen. Drivers can use voice control for a wider range of functions and the screen responds visually to certain inputs, such as displaying a gas pump when asking for directions to a gas station. For example, voice control also works with the air conditioning and steering wheel heating, and the direction of the ventilation nozzles can be changed using gesture control. And owners can add a personal eSIM for connectivity, enabling data throughput through the owner’s personal cell phone service, as opposed to the subscription-based SIM card in the sedan’s car.

The softer Sensatec upholstery on the dashboard and seats is standard and is complemented by the usual BMW leather options. New trim elements include M Fine Brushed Aluminum, Fineline Light open pore wood and Gray Blue Ash open pore wood. Galvanic finishing of the gear selector switch, the BMW iDrive controller and the start/stop button is also possible as an option.

Production of the 2025 4 Series Gran Coupe and 20205 i4 begins in July, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
