The moment theater fans have been waiting for came on Tuesday, April 30, when the nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards were announced.

Modern family alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson And Hamilton‘S Renée Elise Goldsberry announced the nominations on Tuesday, following industry nominations for the Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle awards earlier this season.

The 77th annual ceremony, honoring excellence in live Broadway theater, will take place on Sunday, June 16, at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York. In March it was announced that this was the case Ariana DeBose will host the awards ceremony for the third time, having hosted the event in 2022 and 2023.

“I couldn’t pass up the chance to host the Tonys at Lincoln Center again,” DeBose, 33, said in a statement at the time. “I look forward to working with the team to deliver an incredible celebration of this season’s achievements on Broadway for our community and for everyone at home.”

The best in the industry! So far, only 19 stars have received Hollywood’s most coveted award: the EGOT. The impressive acronym is short for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, the four highest honors one can receive in the entertainment industry. Each award represents an outstanding achievement in the field of television (Emmy), music (Grammy). […]

When DeBose hosted the Tonys in June 2023, she had to come up with her own material due to the Writers Guild of America strike.

“Our brothers and sisters at the WGA are currently on strike to get a fair deal,” she told the audience at the time. “Awards are traditionally written by members of the WGA. In order for this show to go on, many people had to come together and find a compromise. And we are all here, so I say a big thank you to every single person who helped find this compromise!”

DeBose then informed viewers that she would be ad-libbing her lines throughout the show. “Now ask yourself: What is the trade-off? Well, we don’t have a script, folks. Yes, I’m live and unscripted – you’re welcome,” she said. “So to everyone who thought the last year was a bit out of control, I say to them: ‘Darlings, buckle up.’”

She concluded: “But seriously, yes, I don’t have a script, like every presenter who comes on this stage tonight. We just make it up as we go along. And that’s cool. Again, it’s a blessing to be here.”

DeBose’s hosting gig last year followed her viral moment at the 2023 BAFTAs. In February of this year, she gained attention for her rap about the female nominees, particularly her salute to Angela Bassett for doing “that thing.”

Amid a strange awards season, one thing has remained the same: Some deserving celebrities have ended their glamorous evenings with a shiny new conversation piece on their mantel. Or anywhere else! When it comes to storing their awards, celebrities are known to choose some interesting places to store them. While many […]

In June 2023, DeBose addressed the consideration of her BAFTA opening number. “Have I developed a bit of stage fright? I’d be lying if I said ‘no,'” she said Marie Claire. “But I also challenge myself and do scary things every day. And if I’m afraid of something, I should probably do it.”

She continued: “I’ve found that pretending I don’t feel something isn’t helpful. Pretend it’s not happening [is] not helpful. Yes, I performed at the BAFTAs. Yes, the internet was having a moment. Yes, there were some things said that I didn’t appreciate and that I found very hurtful. And yes, at some point the internet turned and people found what I saw in it: the fun, the joy. But that doesn’t mean that on this little journey I didn’t feel like the internet was making fun of me for being me and doing what I love to do. I don’t understand this part of society.”
