Order taking for the BMW iX2 xDrive30 M Sport began in early April this year and we finally have a full gallery of the iX1’s stylish sibling – both are fully imported (CBU) models. The asking price for this electric vehicle (EV) is RM282,800 on-road without insurance, including a standard two-year warranty. If you include the optional five-year extended warranty and six-year service package, the figure comes to RM297,000.

For the money, you get the same powertrain as the iX1 xDrive30, with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 313 hp (308 hp or 230 kW) – with temporary boost – and 494 Nm of torque. This setup is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.

The electric motors are powered by a lithium-ion battery with a gross energy capacity of 66.5 kWh (64.7 kWh net). Thanks to its slimmer shape, the iX2 has a higher WLTP range of 449 km compared to the iX1 xDrive30, which is rated at 438 km.

The charging times are identical, with a maximum DC consumption of 130 kW reaching a state of charge of 10-80% in 29 minutes. There’s also a slower 11kW AC charging option, where a full charge from 0 to 100% takes 6.5 hours.

For comparison, the iX2 costs RM7,000 more (with or without extended warranty and service package) than the iX1 in its range-topping xDrive30 M Sport version, so you’ll pay a little more to get this coupe-inspired design. The extra you pay for the iX2 also gets you some features not available on the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport, starting with the larger 873 M 20-inch V-spoke style two-tone M alloy wheels – the iX1 will be smaller 19 inch units in style 871 M.

In addition, the M High-gloss Shadowline package offers extended content, with the front grille, tailgate logo and mirror caps painted in black. In contrast to the iX1, there are no roof rails for the iX2, but the former does have the illuminated Iconic Glow front grille, acoustic comfort glazing and M Sport brakes with dark blue, metallic-painted brake calipers.

Comparing the spec sheets further, we can see that the iX2’s upholstery is made from Veganza faux leather or a combination of Alcantara/Veganza, paired with bright aluminum “Hexacube” interior panels. The iX1 xDrive30 M Sport comes with either Vernasca leather or Alcantara/Sensatec upholstery, as well as the same “Hexacube” interior trim elements, but in a darker finish.

Aside from these differences, the iX2 xDrive30 M Sport is largely identical to the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport. Both come with an adaptive M suspension, adaptive LED headlights, an M leather steering wheel, electrically adjustable sports seats at the front, an anthracite headliner, dual-zone automatic climate control, an ambient lighting system, a wireless charging pad and a Harman Kardon sound system with 12 Equipped with speakers.

The list continues with the Live Cockpit Professional system (10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen), while the infotainment with BMW Operating System 9 via ConnectedDrive services and Connected Package Professional (support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay). .

Seven colors are offered for the iX2: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Skyscraper Grey, Cape York Green, Fire Red, M Portimau Blue and M Brooklyn Grey. Every purchase includes an eight-year battery guarantee, 160,000 km, roadside assistance and accident hotline as well as BMW Service Online. With more range, extra kit and a distinctive design, would you pay RM7,000 more for the iX2 than the top-spec iX1?
