Here’s a full gallery of the BMW iX1 eDrive20 M Sport, a new entry-level variant of the iX1 introduced just last week. With a standard two-year warranty, the eDrive20 M Sport costs RM249,800, but with the five-year extended warranty and six-year service package, the price rises to RM264,000.

These figures are RM26,000 less (with or without extended warranty and service package) than the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport, the first variant of the iX1 that was launched in Malaysia in May last year.

For the money, the eDrive20 uses the same lithium-ion battery as the xDrive30 with a gross energy capacity of 66.5 kWh (64.7 kWh net). The former offers more range at 475 km according to the WLTP standard, the latter is 438 km.

The range advantage is due to the fact that the eDrive20 only has a front-mounted electric motor with an output of 204 hp (201 hp or 150 kW) and 250 Nm of torque when the temporary boost function is activated. In comparison, the xDrive30 has a dual motor producing 313 hp (308 hp or 230 kW) and 494 Nm.

At higher outputs, the xDrive30 needs 5.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The eDrive20 and its single electric motor are 8.6 seconds slower in the century sprint and have a slightly lower top speed of 170 km/h.

When it comes to charging, there is no difference as the eDrive20 supports a maximum AC draw of 11kW, allowing a full charge from 0 to 100% in 6.5 hours. As with the xDrive30, DC fast charging with up to 130 kW is also included, which charges the battery from 10-80% in 29 minutes.

Visually, the eDrive20 M Sport can be recognized by its closed kidney grille, the insert of which has a triangular pattern, while the nose of the xDrive30 M Sport has vertical slats. Both are equipped with the M Sport package, which includes more aggressive bumpers as well as 19-inch M bicolor light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design 871 M, the M high-gloss shadowline package and the M high-gloss shadowline roof rails.

The eDrive20 M Sport’s upholstery consists of either Veganza synthetic leather or a combination of Alcantara and Veganza, paired with “Hexacube” aluminum interior panels in a light finish. The xDrive30 M Sport is available with either Vernasca leather or a combination of Alcantara and Sensatec, while the interior trim is available in the same “Hexacube” design in a darker finish.

As for driver assistance features, the eDrive20 M Sport comes standard with the Driving Assistant package, which includes features such as lane change warning, rear cross-traffic alert with braking intervention, exit warning, rear collision prevention and autonomous emergency braking.

The Driving Assistant Plus package, standard on the xDrive30 M Sport, is also available, but is offered as an on-demand feature via the Connected Drive Store. On the official website, Driving Assistant Plus is listed as a subscription (RM167.55/month, RM1,675.51/year, RM2,606.35/three years) or unlimited package (non-subscription) for RM3,273.36 – There are also a three-month free trial.
