The House Select Committee examines the Jan. 6 Capitol riot will schedule its last two public hearings in July, instead of June, as originally expected, said President Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., On Wednesday.

Thompson suggested that new evidence prompted the commission to change its schedule. A select commissioner told CNBC that the panel “will continue to receive additional evidence relevant to our investigation” into the Capitol riot, and that it will announce dates and times for the final hearings “soon”.

The commission’s fifth public hearing, which focuses on how former President Donald Trump put pressure on the Department of Justice to help endeavor to reverse his 2020 election loss, is still scheduled for Thursday afternoon, Thompson confirmed to reporters at the Capitol.

“And the next two hearings will be later in July,” he said.

In those hearings, the commission aims to show how Trump illegally targeted a violent crowd on the Capitol on January 1st. 6, 2021, and then failed to take swift action to suppress the attack once it had begun. The Vice-Chairman of the Panel, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., Said earlier this month that those last two hearings will take place in June.

Committee members have made it clear that their investigation is continuing, and that this summer’s public hearings represent only the first findings of the nearly year-long investigation into the pro-Trump uprising in the Capitol.

The commission is still receiving new information and tips, presumably including never-before-seen documentaries of a filmmaker with access to Trump and his family before and after the uprising. Investigators are also continuing to seek the cooperation of key witnesses, including former White House lawyers Pat Cipollone and Ginni Thomas, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife.

The panel intends to make a final report on its findings by the fall, Thompson said.
