West Vigo students show 3rd graders nature in their backyard

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO / WAWV) – Local elementary students came out of class on Tuesday and took their science class outside.

West Vigo High School students held a Kids Science Day for third graders at Sugar Creek Consolidated and Fayette Elementary Schools.

The 3rd graders visited several stations at Dewey Point where they learned about topics ranging from bees and frogs to microscopes.

“It shows her what’s going on in her backyard,” said West Vigo senior Hailey Kane. “It really shows them what’s in the Wabashiki. It shows them what they have access to that they do not really think about.”

The people involved say that the children have a lot of fun.

“They laugh and smile and just really enjoy it,” said West Vigo Biology Teacher Lora Kane. “Great fun and it’s just fun to get out of class and see these kids in action.”

The event was sponsored by Emily’s Walk, Riverscape, and West Vigo High School.
