Tommy Dorfman is ready to tell the world that she is officially married.
The 13 reasons why Star confirms her wedding in an essay for Fashionpublished on Thursday, sharing that she and her now-wife Elise eloped in 2023. Dorfman, 31, shares that falling in love wasn’t in her immediate plans after their divorce from her ex-husband Peter Zurkuhlen in February 2022 after five years of marriage.
As Dorfman put it, she was “eager to usher in her ‘Samantha Jones era,'” a reference to the famous sex-starved character in Sex and the City cleverly presented by Kim Cattrall. Dorfman says that’s exactly what she planned to do when she signed up for the dating app Hinge, but everything changed when she met Elise.
Dorfman says that the first few months of the relationship “set the tone for how we would eventually get married,” and that it was a low-key wedding that turned into an elopement. The idea of an elopement seemed even more tempting after the couple endured “an embarrassing amount of headlines” after she “casually” mentioned it in August 2022 Broad ideas Podcast that she was engaged to a woman. She never mentioned Elise, but the tone was set.
Dorfman – who came out as transgender in the summer of 2021 – says that at that time the couple decided to keep their relationship “private until we decided to invite others.” That’s why I’m eloping.
The actress reveals that they eventually bought their wedding dresses, but their elopement was so spontaneous that they never got the chance to wear them on their actual wedding day in Los Angeles (they were wrapped up at home in Brooklyn).
The wedding day photos were taken using Dorfman’s iPhone and a disposable camera she purchased at CVS that morning.
“The photos of this moment are mostly blurry and terribly composed,” she quips Fashion“but still something special.”
Back in Brooklyn, Dorfman says, the couple dressed in the wedding dresses she had bought at Dover Street Market New York (where she once worked) and had a photo shoot snapped by a close friend Commemorate the momentous occasion.

The wedding reveal comes nearly three years after Dorfman shared why she “I’ve never felt better” after he came out as transgender, telling InStyle that taking hormones has paid off hugely.
“I just changed my hormones and I’ve never felt better in my life,” she noted at the time. “I spent 28 years of my life suicidal and depressed, recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction. I don’t think I was ever truly happy until last year. I look at the internet timeline of photos of myself since I started working, and I can see in every photo how damn unhappy I have been.
