Tammy Slaton has come a long way in her health journey! The 37 year old 1000 pounds. sisters The star appeared alongside her friend Haley Michelle in a new photo, and Tammy wore a swimsuit for the photocall. Haley even gushed about how “proud” she was of the reality TV star’s weight loss.
“Proud of you #tammyslatonweightloss,” Haley captioned an Instagram post on Wednesday, April 24. In the picture, Tammy wore a blue scale swimsuit while lounging poolside with Haley, who wore a black and white one-piece.
Haley followed her social media post with a second post of her and the TLC personality. In the other picture, Tammy and her friend wore matching black dresses while posing in front of a lake.
“Spiritual sisters,” Haley wrote alongside the Instagram photo that day. “Because of our strong connection, we don’t have to explain anything to anyone. You are my best friend.”
Tammy has had a long and arduous health journey. After her gastric bypass surgery in 2022, the reality TV star informed fans in 2023 that she had lost more than 400 pounds.
“One of the big changes I’ve gone through in the last year is probably small to most people. But for me it was huge,” Tammy said PEOPLE in an interview last year. “Just being able to walk without a walker or being pushed in a wheelchair and no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with it at night anymore. Back then it could fit into a regular vehicle, into the front seat and then into the seatbelt buckle and now no longer needed to use an extender. So I mean, the very thing that seems insignificant to some people is huge to me.”
At that time, Tammy only weighed 285 pounds. She initially weighed over 300 pounds and suffered from multiple health issues and medical emergencies.
In mid-2023, Tammy experienced an overwhelming tragedy in her personal life: she lost her late husband, Caleb Willingham. She received a text message from a friend informing her that Caleb had no pulse and had died.
“I am devastated to share the news of my husband’s death,” Tammy said PEOPLE in July 2023. “He was my best friend and I loved him very much. When I met Caleb he became my guardian angel and now he truly watches over me. Our families appreciate everyone’s compassion and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
