“What Are We Going to Say Now?”: Wasim Akram Criticises Pakistan After T20 World Cup Defeat Against India

Pakistani legend Wasim Akram launched a devastating attack on his national team after the disappointing six-point loss to arch-rivals India in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday. The low-scoring thriller, played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, saw India climbs to the top of Group A.

Pakistan’s bowling skills wasted

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Naseem Shah And Haris Rauf take three wickets each. Despite Rishabh PantsWith the quick 42 runs, India was restricted to 119 in 19 overs.

As answer to, Mohammad Rizwan offered a glimmer of hope with his patient 31, but Pakistan’s batting collapsed thereafter. Regular wickets derailed their chase and they ultimately fell short of expectations, scoring just 113/7 in their allotted overs. Jasprit Bumrah played a key role in India’s victoryand took three crucial wickets for just 14 runs.

Wasim Akram lets out his frustration

Visibly frustrated, Akram criticised the Pakistani team’s lack of fighting spirit and basic cricket sense in an interview with Star Sports after the match.

“Pakistan does not need an enemy, it has enough of its own. [Pakistan doesn’t need an enemy, they have plenty themselves]”, he said.

Akram questioned the team’s understanding of game situations and criticised both the batsmen and the coaching staff for their lack of guidance.

“What are we putting in his mouth now? Now tell us, what is situational awareness? Babar will fight, the coach will fight [Now should we put a pacifier in their mouths? Now we have to explain to them what situation awareness is? Babar will explain, the coach will explain]”, remarked an angry Akram.

Akram specifically targeted Rizwan, highlighting his lack of intent and ignorance.

“These batsmen have been playing for 8-10 years. Now I told Rizwan that Tunga’s main bowler came for one over, he came to take the wicket. You didn’t hit a four after 10 overs. Didn’t even try. Even 120 (target) was not chased. [These batsmen have been playing for the last 8-10 years. Now should I tell Rizwan that the main bowler has come for one over, to take a wicket? You didn’t hit a boundary after 10 overs. Didn’t even try. So even 120 couldn’t be chased]”, he added.

Akram’s strong words reflected the deep disappointment of many Pakistani fans.

“Now the feeling of embarrassment has started. As a Pakistani, I want to support the Pakistani team. Everything is limited. [Now it has started to become embarrassing. As a Pakistani, I want to back the Pakistan team. But there’s a limit to everything]concluded the former Pakistan captain.

Babar Azam & Co. will now have to fight hard to qualify for the Super 8 stage. They will need to win their remaining matches against Canada and Ireland by a comfortable margin to improve their net run rate.
