“We Need Change Now” Wasim Akram on Pakistan Team’s Need to Bring in More Players After Terrible Performance at T20 World Cup

The Pakistan national team has so far lost two of its two matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. After a “shameful” defeat against the USA, that too in the Super Over, followed by a narrow defeat against India, the Pakistan national team has missed the chance to win.

The team has been criticized by pundits and Pakistani fans around the world, and comments became even more negative following the team’s disappointing loss to long-time rivals India.

Wasim Akram criticizes Pakistani team

Former Pakistani football star Wasim Akram has seen his former team lose its former glory in just a few years. Akram did not hold back in criticising the team for their sub-par performance.

“Enough is enough. We need change now. Bring in a new team – six to seven players – and then back them in defeats so that they can develop as a team. It is time for the PCB chairman to take a bold step,” urged Waseem.

We hear again and again [of the team] that this guy is not talking to that guy or that guy is not talking to him. That was the best New York pitch so far, it wasn’t that difficult. How difficult was it to chase 120? After that performance, I don’t think Pakistan deserves to be in the Super 8s,” Akram added in a video he posted on Twitter.

“Pakistan’s team doesn’t need enemies,” jokes Akram

Wasim Akram also expressed his disappointment with the current team and added that the team does not need new opponents, pointing out their poor conditions.

Akram was embarrassed by his team’s performance and stressed that Mohammed Rizwan should have known that the Indian team’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah had come back to take a wicket and that he could have saved face with a single.

“The Pakistan team does not need enemies. They are enough. Should we tell them everything? Should we tell them what the situation is? Will Babar do it or the coach? These players have been playing for 8-10 years. Should I tell them [Mohammad] Rizwan that their main bowler [Jasprit Bumrah] came back to take a wicket, so take a single? They barely hit a boundary after 10 overs. Didn’t even try.

Now I feel embarrassed. As a Pakistani, I want to support the Pakistani team but everything has its limits. It was unfortunately a very sad day for Pakistani cricket. I can’t even speak right now. Of course, one feels frustrated. I am really down. I am usually a positive person but to lose like this? It might be a bitter pill to swallow but it is what it is,” Akram concluded in his Twitter video.

Pakistan’s next match is against Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
