Thursday night’s game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics started with a lot of buzz. After all, the Bucks and Celtics are at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, and the two teams will play a separate game in front of a national audience with stars on both sides. However, the basketball-watching public didn’t get to see a classic on Thursday, with the Celtics’ 140-99 victory over the Bucks at the Fiserv Forum.
In the final moments of the game, with both teams on the bench, some fireworks led to the ejection. Milwaukee’s Thanasis Antetokounmpo ended up headbutting Blake Griffin after an altercation at the rim.
Things seemed to start to escalate when Antetokounmpo and Griffin tangled in the initial rally. From there, Griffin wraps Antetokounmpo with some authority, and the response is the part that gets the catapult. He then went to the bench and jokingly tried on Jaylen Brown’s mask, having some fun with his teammates after a fight.
Griffin got 1 flagrant foul for his troubles, which had no real impact on this particular game given the lopsided score. However, with these two teams likely to face off in the playoffs later this spring, any extra momentum could add to the appeal of an already appetizing battle ahead.
