Shahid Afridi Expresses Concern Over Azam Khan’s Fitness Ahead of T20 World Cup

The T20 World Cup is just around the corner. In just a few days, the cricket fraternity will witness another exciting edition of the tournament. Pakistan is the latest team to announce its squad. Pakistan has selected its players without making any major changes. But Azam Khan’s selection for the T20 World Cup squad did not please former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. And he made a big comment about it.

Afridi on Azam Khan’s selection:

Preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup have begun. All teams are fighting hard. Pakistan announced their T20 World Cup squad at the very end. There are no major changes, but there is one interesting new addition. Azam Khan, who has made headlines several times for his fitness, got the chance to represent his country on the big stage of the T20 World Cup.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has raised concerns over Azam Khan’s fitness for the national team. Afridi stressed the importance of fitness and stated that he would not let Khan play for Pakistan until he improves his fitness. Afridi believes that maintaining high fitness levels improves a player’s body language on the field, which is crucial for performing at the highest level.

He said, “Fitness is the most important thing. If you are fit, your body language will reflect that on the field, be it batting, bowling or fielding. You cannot compromise on fitness. I would never let Azam Khan come anywhere near the team in terms of fitness.”

Azam Khan’s struggle behind the wickets:

This edition of the T20 World Cup is being organised by the West Indies and the USA. The teams will play in Caribbean conditions. Azam Khan, who is travelling as a wicketkeeper-batsman, will play a crucial role in the tournament. To be flexible behind the stumps, he needs to be fit and Afridi expressed his concern in this regard.

He said: “In England, the ball goes behind the stumps (while being held). But when they go to West Indies, the ball will not go that far there, it will stay low. I hope he doesn’t have any problems but I am worried whether he can keep up against spinners in West Indian conditions at this level of fitness because the ball stays low there and you have to keep your body low as well.”

Before the T20 World Cup, Pakistan will face England in a T20 series. After losing the first match of the series, Pakistan suffered a 23-run defeat in the second match. They will be looking to end the series with a win. After that, they will play their first match in the T20 World Cup against the USA on June 6. They will face their biggest rivals of all time, India, in New York on June 9.
