RR vs KKR: Are Rajasthan Royals Playing to Lose? Aakash Chopra Questions Team’s Integrity After Back-to-back Defeats

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Akash Chopra has expressed concern about the surprise collapse Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL 2024. Chopra described the Royals’ current situation as “slightly miserable” after they suffered a five-wicket defeat against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2024 clash in Guwahati on May 15.

It was the fourth consecutive win for RR in the ongoing IPL 2024, prompting the former India batsman to question the team’s ability to win games in the later stages of the tournament. He mentioned that they have failed to win a single game so far this month despite having a dream start to their 2024 IPL season, winning eight games at the start of the season.

Aakash Chopra criticizes RR’s lack of intent in IPL 2024

Chopra criticized RR’s approach in the last few games and said a lack of intent in their batting performances, especially after they won the toss and opted to bat first, played a key role in the failure of their 2024 IPL campaign. He also highlighted their difficulty in scoring runs and questioned the reason behind preparing such a pitch in Guwahati.

Chopra expressed disappointment over RR’s decision to create a “home away from home” by playing in locations other than their stronghold in Jaipur, and stressed that they should capitalize on their stronghold in Jaipur, where they have a have an impressive track record rather than traveling to unfamiliar venues.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “What happened guys, RR, are you going to win or are you only going to qualify if others win?” You might feel guilty, why am I saying this when you won eight games? It seems like you won those eight games last month. Did you win a match this month?”

“Why are you setting up a second home?”

Chopra further noted: “I don’t think they won a game this month. They have lost four games in a row and their condition looks a bit miserable. They win the toss first and bat, but don’t score any runs after that. They showed no intention whatsoever, neither in Chennai nor in Guwahati.”

Why are you getting such a pitch done in Guwahati? First, why are you making a second home? If you have a stronghold in Jaipur that no one can break through, you have understood these conditions well and have also played five matches, then why should you travel and go somewhere else?”

It is noteworthy that RR has qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs and is currently in second place in the standings with 16 points from 13 games in the tournament so far. But for now, the Royals’ position in the top two appears to be in jeopardy after losing four games in a row.

Now they have to beat league leaders Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their final league match on May 19 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati to reach the top two and that won’t be easy given their poor form.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have a great chance of joining KKR in the top two as they still have two games left in the league phase and if they manage to beat Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 16 and the Beating PBKS on May 19th will be tough for RR.
