Rey Mysterio Beats Dominik With Bad Bunny, Frog Splash

Rey Mysterio defeated Dominik Mysterio with the help of Bad Bunny at WrestleMania 39.

Bad Bunny was featured as the guest of honor in the match, and played until the end when he thwarted Dominik’s attempt to use the chain. This ending could be in the next WWE WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view from Bad Bunny’s home country of Puerto Rico.

Rey’s feud with Dominik Mysterio spilled over into the legacy of Eddie Guerrero – who was revealed to be Dominik’s real father during his infamous feud with Rey. In an attempt to provoke Rey Mysterio, Dominik repeatedly stated that he wished Eddie was his real father. Guerrero’s relationship to the Mysterio family led many to believe that Dominik’s WrestleMania entrance would include Eddie’s famous lowrider gimmick.

As usual in the Triple H Era, the result wasn’t what the fans had booked, but it was great when Dominik Mysterio got out of a police car along with the prison guards. Rey Mysterio, meanwhile, came out on a low ride driven by Snoop Dogg as “Nothin’ But a G Thang” played in the background.

Mysterio vs. Mysterio was on the short list to the main event of WrestleMania Night 1. At WrestleMania SmackDown last night in Los Angeles, with a crowd full of Latino fans, this feud was considered the biggest of WrestleMania.

To best cap off the build-up to Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik, WWE saved his best for last with a fun Hall of Fame ceremony. One where Konnan gave the best Hall of Fame performance of all time.

“If I could be born again, I would want Rey to be my best friend again,” Konnan said during a special Hall of Fame speech that was supposed to be in the Hall of Fame.

Dominik and Rhea Ripley were expected to make a scene at Rey Mysterio’s Hall of Fame speech, but they did it by doing very little and getting a lot of attention. This has been the calling card throughout the Triple H Era, where the main part was far from what most fans would book fantasy, but it was better.

Domink Mysterio didn’t need to attack Konnan. He shouldn’t have attacked Rey. It was not physical. Dominik just sat in his chair as the WWE lights went off – causing a lot of heat. Along with Damian the Priest, the cout d’etat of the Doomsday family was just walking out of the ceremony before Rey began to speak. This led to chants of profanity in Spanish from the Latino crowd.

WWE set up a Rey vs. Dominik is a tried-and-true technique in the Triple H Era when storytelling is amplified and physicality is minimal. Like clockwork, WWE patiently waited until the time came for Rey Mysterio to finally pummel Dominik. Like Undertaker’s feud with his brother (kayfabe) Kane in 1998, Rey refused to lay hands on his son.

After weeks of being heavily teased by Dominik, the heat of the feud has grown to a fever pitch as fans yearn for Dominik to return. That moment came on the best part of the March 24, 2023 broadcast of WWE SmackDown, when Rey Mysterio brought Dominik out to talk to his mother, and Rey’s wife, Angie Mysterio.

Dominik continued to frustrate his family, who were inept at the game, in several places where he received a lot of heat. No place was more heated than when Angie Mysterio beat Dominik.
