PAK vs CAN: Umar Akmal Raises His Hand for Pakistan to Be Called up with a Six-pack Like Virat Kohli

Given Pakistan’s poor performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, wicket-keeper Umar Akmal has expressed his interest in making a comeback to the national team. Umar Akmal made a post on Twitter (X) on Monday, June 11, stating that he is fit enough to play for Pakistan.

Notably, Umar Akmal last played for Pakistan in 2019. His last match was a T20I match against Sri Lanka in October 2019. Since then, he has been overlooked by the selectors. In April 2020, Umar Akmal was banned for three years by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Disciplinary Committee for failing to report corruption incidents.

The committee found him guilty in this case and since Akmal accepted the charge, he was banned from all cricket matches for three years. However, the wicket-keeper has served his three-year ban and the Pakistani selectors can reinstate him in the national team at any time.

Umar Akmal shows his fitness in the X-Post

Following Pakistan’s back-to-back defeats in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Umar Akmal has hinted that he is still fit and ready to play for the team. The 34-year-old tweeted his photos on X showing off his abs and muscles.

“Attention please. This is for those who think I’m not fit,” he wrote under the two photos. The post went pretty viral on X and received over 1,500 likes in no time.

While some fans praised him for his fitness, others urged him to join WWE rather than return to cricket. Check out Umar Akmal’s post below.

Umar Akmal made his international debut for Pakistan in 2009. Till 2019, before his ban, he played a total of 16 Tests, 121 ODIs and 84 T20Is for the Men-In-Green. At one point, he was the team’s main wicketkeeper.

He scored 1003 runs in Tests at an average of 35.82. He also scored 3194 runs in ODIs and 1690 runs in T20Is at a batting average of 34+ and 26+ respectively.

Pakistan has slim chances of qualifying for Super 8 at ICC T20 WC 2024

Meanwhile, Pakistan have lost two matches in a row in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Led by Babar Azam, they suffered a humiliating defeat to an amateur team from the USA in their opening Super Over match.

Later, Pakistan also lost their second match against India as they could not even reach 120 runs in that match. While Pakistani bowlers performed brilliantly in the 1st innings, their batters lost their wickets like a house of cards.

With 2 defeats in 2 matches, the Pakistani team is at the 4th position in the points table of Group A of 5 teams. They will play two more matches in the group stage against Canada and Ireland.

However, Babar Azam & Co. have already lost 2 out of 4 matches in the first round and have only a very slim chance of qualifying for the next round. Only the top two teams from Group A will reach the Super 8 round at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
