Oh Fishticks! Ferrari 488 Pista Crashes Into the River

  • A silver Ferrari 488 Pista was totaled in Switzerland after plunging into the Simme.
  • The supercar reportedly collided with another vehicle traveling in the same direction.
  • The driver escaped without serious injuries, although he had to wait in the water for 40 minutes before he could be rescued.

It turns out that it’s not just Porsche 911s that have a penchant for unplanned water adventures. A Ferrari 488 Pista ended up halfway in the Swiss river after a minor disagreement with another car. While the driver escaped unscathed (aside from a possible bruised ego), the Italian stallion appears destined for the scrapyard thanks to a hefty dose of H2O.

The accident occurred last Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in an area called Garstattlast. According to local media, the silver Ferrari is said to have collided with another vehicle that was traveling in the same direction from Zweisimmen to Boltigen.

After the accident, the Ferrari driver appeared to have lost control of the supercar, sending it on a scenic detour straight into the River Simme. A video taken by an eyewitness and shared by media outlet 20 Minutes shows the nose of the 488 Pista sticking out of the water. However, the rest of the car – interior, engine, the whole shebang – seems to be enjoying a rather involuntary baptism.

Fortunately, the driver suffered no injuries from the fall and was able to free himself from the half-submerged Ferrari. Unable to reach the riverbank on his own, he had to wait next to his submerged supercar for about 40 minutes until police and firefighters arrived to rescue him.

Adrian Bieri, commander of the Boltiger fire department, spoke to the Berner Zeitung about the incident. He mentioned that they responded with 16 men in three vehicles, but due to the strong current they decided to call the Marine Police. Using a ten-meter-long ladder, they were able to rescue the driver before a crane pulled the Ferrari out of the water.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital as a precaution but did not suffer any serious injuries. The accident is still under investigation by authorities, who are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the Ferrari floating.

Local media reports that numerous vehicles have been involved in accidents on this road, which has a speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph). When it comes to cars jumping into rivers, it appears to be peak season after similar incidents occurred with a new Porsche 911 GT3 RS in Washington, USA, and a classic Porsche 993 Turbo in Weiz, Germany.
