Nikki Glaser on Tom Brady Regretting Roast: ‘I Feel Like He Didn’t Consider His Family’s Backlash’

Nikki Glaser received a standing ovation after her performance The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady and now shares further insight into her observations of the event.

When appearing on Today with Hoda and Jenna To promote her latest Netflix comedy special, Glaser was asked about Brady, who revealed he regretted doing the roast because it affected his children.

“I think he probably does,” Glaser said. “I feel like maybe he didn’t think about the backlash from his family and how that would affect them, and I understand that.”

The comedian added: “Tom Brady doesn’t do anything without doing proper research and knowing exactly what he’s getting into. I think that’s something you say with the benefit of hindsight, but I can’t imagine that he didn’t think about what could have happened.”

“There are roasts you can watch,” she continued. “But part of me thinks that Tom Brady, especially given his career and how much people love him, no one has said anything bad to him in the last 30 years. So he didn’t know anyone would be able to go there.”

Glaser said she “got the feeling it was maybe a little more than he had planned” during the roast, noting that the NFL star hadn’t practiced how he would react.

“I think it’s right in the middle [the roast] He had decided that something like the laugh was what he was going to do,” she said. “But I think at first it kind of shook him because I really don’t think he thought they were going to go there.”

Glaser was also surprised when, in one of the night’s viral moments, Brady stood up from his seat to tell comedian Jeff Ross not to joke about Rober Kraft.

“I thought maybe it was a joke or part of the choreography they had choreographed before, but it certainly wasn’t,” Glaser said.

Brady recently considered attending the roast and said he would never do something like that again.

“I loved it when the jokes were about me. I thought she was so funny,” Brady continued The Pivot Podcast. “I didn’t like how it affected my children. The hardest part about it is the bittersweet aspect of doing something that you think is a possibility and then you suddenly realize, I wouldn’t do that again because of the way people actually do it in the world that I care about most.”
