Meryl Streep Teases ‘Mamma Mia!’ 3′ Role: ‘Of Course I Want to Do It’

Meryl Streep teased that she was in talks to reprise her role as Donna Sheridan in the third installment of Oh mom!

“Of course I want to do it. I think people love it,” Streep, 74, said deadline on Tuesday, May 14, at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival at the Grand Théâtre Lumière.

The actress noted that a meeting where she will hear suggestions for a return is “imminent” and she is excited to see how the producer will proceed Judy Craymer has skirted around the fact that her character died between the 2008 OG film and the 2018 sequel. Mamma Mia! here we go again.

Amanda Seyfried took on her role as Donna’s daughter Sophie Sheridan and shared a moment on screen with Streep at the end of the film as Donna’s ghost proudly watched her grandson’s baptism. She also came back for the credits so she could sing some more ABBA Cher.

Streep isn’t the only one Oh mom! Star who is ready to do another film.

“Listen, every single person in this movie would immediately say ‘yes’ because we want to spend time together,” Seyfried, 38, told Collider in June 2020. “We talked about that last time, right? Did you ever think we would end up here again on an island in Croatia?”
