Indian national cricket team’s opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has been admitted to hospital after falling during the ongoing Irani Cup 2022 clash between Saurashtra and Rest of India at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday, October 2. had been hit in the head.

The Irani Cup, played between the Ranji Trophy winners and Rest of India, will feature a one-off match between Rest of India and 2019-20 Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra in Rajkot. Notably, the match between Saurashtra and Rest of India was postponed due to Covid-19 in 2020.

On the second day of the Irani Cup 2022 match, opening batsman Mayank Agarwal was hit on the head by a pitch just before the start of Saurashtra’s second innings and was taken to a hospital for a precautionary check-up, Sportstar reported.

“Mayank Agarwal has gone to the hospital for a precautionary check-up after he was hit on the head with a pitch just before the start of Saurashtra’s second innings. Prevention is the key word here,” tweeted sports journalist Amol Karhadkar.

Sports journalist Amol Karhadkar also confirmed that Mayank Agarwal did not suffer any serious injuries and his scan reports were normal.

“Mayank Agarwal’s scan reports are “normal”. “No internal injury detected,” he further tweeted.

Mayank, who has played 21 Tests and 5 ODIs for the Indian national cricket team, scored 11 runs in the first innings before being dismissed by Chetan Sakariya.

Speaking of the game, the rest of India won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rest of India pacers Mukesh Kumar, Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen decimated Saurashtra’s batting unit, bundling them out for just 98. Mukesh bagged four wickets in the first innings while Umran Malik and Kuldeep bagged three wickets each.

In their first innings, Rest of India scored 374 runs, supported by the strong Sarfaraz Khan, who scored another century in domestic cricket, and captain Hanuma Vihari’s brilliant 82 runs. At the end of the second day, Saurashtra was at 49/2.
