Noted actress Lin Laishram and her husband, acclaimed actor and filmmaker Randeep Hooda, visited the historic Cellular Jail in Kala Pani, Port Blair on May 28, the 141st birth anniversary of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. The visit had deep personal and professional significance for the couple, especially given Hooda’s extensive involvement in the film on Veer Savarkar titled Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.

Laishram shared her heartfelt thoughts on the visit in an emotional Instagram post. “This trip to the Cellular Jail in Kala Pani, Port Blair was incredibly meaningful for me. Watching my husband endure so much during the shooting of Veer Savarkar was heartbreaking. Watching him lose weight, increase in responsibility and how relentless he was in his role as a director, producer, screenwriter and actor. Honestly, I started to despise the project because I couldn’t bear to see him struggle so hard. But now, seeing the final product on screen fills me with immense pride. This visit brought me much-needed closure and deep respect for the sacrifices made then and now,” she captioned the post.
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a poignant reminder of India’s struggle for independence, where many freedom fighters, including Veer Savarkar, were imprisoned. Hooda’s film explores the life and legacy of Savarkar, and this visit provided the couple with an opportunity to appreciate the historical significance of the site and the sacrifices of those who endured its harsh conditions.
Randeep Hooda, known for his methodical approach to acting, took on multiple roles in the making of the film, underlining his commitment to the project. His commitment was not only professional but also personal and left a deep impression on Laishram.
