Leeds vs Norwich: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

A thrilling Championship play-off clash awaits at Elland Road on Thursday evening as Leeds United take on Norwich City with a tie on the line.

There were two typically tough first legs on Sunday as Southampton and West Brom played out a stalemate in the Midlands after Leeds and Norwich did the same at Carrow Road.

Leeds would undoubtedly have left East Anglia the happier of the two teams, although the second leg is expected to be an exciting evening with so much at stake. Daniel Farke’s side dueled with Leicester and Ipswich Town for an automatic promotion place and at times looked like they could have won the title.

However, Leicester’s recovery and Leeds’ struggles down the stretch saw them drop to third place and settle for a place in the play-offs.

Norwich are in similar poor form to their opponents and have only won two of their last eight games. Sunday’s lack of victory at Carrow Road could be crucial in deciding the winner of this clash, as David Wagner’s side have not lost on home soil since November. Their away form has been far more patchy and Elland Road will rock on Thursday night.

Here is 90 minutes Preview the game.

Pascal Struijk will miss the rest of the season due to groin surgery, while Patrick Bamford has a patellar tendon problem and is a doubt for the final if Leeds progress on Thursday night.

Former Manchester United winger Daniel James was back in action on Sunday and the Welshman will challenge Willy Gnonto for a start against Leeds in the second leg.

Predicted line-up for Leeds against Norwich (4-3-3): Meslier; Byram, Rodon, Ampadu, Firpo; Gray, Gruev, Kamara; Gnonto, Rutter, Summerville.

Josh Sargent was substituted in the closing stages of the first leg and is a doubt for the second leg in Yorkshire. Wagner is also unlikely to be able to find a possible replacement for American Ashley Barnes, who is struggling with a calf injury.

Liam Gibbs and Onel Hernandez are left out for the guests.

Expected Norwich line-up against Leeds (4-3-3): Gunn; Stacey, Duffy, Gibson, Giannoulis; Nunez, McLean, Sara; Rowe, Van Hooijdonk, Sainz

The attacking exuberance normally associated with these two teams was not on display at Carrow Road and in truth neither side fired at full speed down the stretch.

However, that could change on Thursday night as both teams will have to rise to the challenge. This is an extremely important fight and given the circumstances you have to support the home team.

Leeds’ first leg draw was a great result and although they have proven vulnerable at Elland Road recently, the home fans will be expecting to see their side on the right side of the result on Thursday.

Prediction: Leeds 3-1 Norwich
