Kia’s Electric Pickup Truck Looks Very Similar to an EV9 with a Bed

  • Hyundai Motor Group’s new EV platform will support Kia’s electric pickup truck
  • Kia’s new truck is coming to the USA, local production is also possible.
  • The EV appears slightly larger than the brand’s Tasman truck

As Kia moves closer to unveiling the Tasman, a global mid-size pickup truck, the Korean manufacturer has begun testing its second truck, which will be fully electric. A camouflaged prototype was recently filmed on public roads in the USA

The Kia electric pickup will serve as the latest addition to a growing electric truck segment driven by the likes of the Tesla Cybertruck and the Rivian R1T. However, Kia is unlikely to pursue performance numbers like these two, and it will likely be more similar to offerings from Ford, Chevrolet and Ram.

In this prototype, the headlights and most of the front fascia appear to have been taken from the Kia EV9. It’s even finished in the same matte blue tone as the EV9. The test truck is also equipped with the same taillights as the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Although these lights fit the pickup quite well, we suspect they will be changed for the production model.

Compared to the Kia Tasman, the design of the brand’s electric pickup appears a little more conventional. Teasers and spy images of the Tasman showed it with strange black fender flares and a very unusual front end. Kia’s electric pickup is likely to follow a similar design philosophy as the brand’s other electric vehicles, including the EV5, updated EV6 and EV9, and feature stylish and aggressive daytime running lights at the front and similarly eye-catching LEDs at the rear.

Little else is known about the pickup, but it is not expected to have a body-on-frame design like the Tasman. In early 2023, Hyundai announced that its second-generation EV platform would support an electric truck to replace the E-GMP.

Unlike the Tasman, Kia’s electric pickup will be sold in the US, but to avoid the 25 percent “chicken tax” it could be built locally.
