Jeep’s $25,000 Electric Car Will Be the Next Generation Renegade – Autoblog

During a Stellantis investor presentation, executives including the brand’s CEO Antonio Filosa gave a glimpse of Jeep’s future through 2027. This includes new and updated models, as well as plenty of electrification, with products at both the high and low ends of the price range.

One of the big announcements involved a small vehicle: the next-generation Jeep Renegade. (Current model pictured above.) The compact SUV will come with an all-electric variant that Filosa said will start at under $25,000. He did not specify whether that price includes federal tax credits, and it’s hard to say either way. It seems necessary to include credits when the car comes to market in the next few years, but domestic production and material composition will be tighter to actually take advantage of the credits.

But the Renegade isn’t the only new model on the way. The Jeep Compass is getting a new generation by 2027. And joining those two models is the unnamed midsize SUV that was announced with the unveiling of the Wagoneer S. While no name has been given yet, it will likely be the new Cherokee or a Cherokee successor with a different name. And over time, the Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer will also be refreshed. And the full lineup will include five PHEV variants, one range-extended model, and six full-fledged electric vehicles by 2027. Some of these will, of course, be variants of the same model, like the Wrangler 4xe PHEV, Wagoneer 4xe Range Extender, and the aforementioned Renegade EV.

Two of the six announced all-electric vehicles will be unveiled in 2025. One of them will be based on the STLA Large platform, the other on the STLA Medium platform. For reference, Large is used for E and D segment vehicles, such as the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee. And Medium is used for D and C segment vehicles, the latter of which would represent the Compass and the next-generation version.

Coming back to the Renegade, we expect it to launch later than these larger models. We also expect it to use the Smart Car platform as a B-segment vehicle with a very low price and multiple powertrain options. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares hinted at this when he talked about the Citroen e-C3, which also uses this platform, in the same breath as the then-unnamed Renegade. It supports B- and C-segment vehicles, hybrid engines and electric powertrains, the latter available with a range of up to 249 miles. This range estimate is likely in WLTP terms and would therefore likely be lower on the EPA cycle.

So the next few years should be interesting for Jeep. And electrification will really take off this year: The Wagoneer S will be launched at the end of the year, and the Recon will be launched in earnest next year.
