IFC Films Has Acquired Oscar Winner Adam Elliot’s Memoir Of A Snail, Starring Sarah Snook

EXCLUSIVE: IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Memoirs of a Snaila stop-motion drama from Adam Elliot – the writer and director of the 2004 Oscar-winning short film Harvey Krumpet.

Marks the first starring role as lead actress Sarah Snook (Succession) and Elliot’s second stop-motion film after 2009 Maria and Max Also distributed by IFC, the film revolves around the life of Grace Poodle, a lonely outsider with an affinity for collecting ornamental snails and an intense love of romance novels. When she is separated from her twin brother at a young age, she falls into a spiral of fear and anxiety. Despite a series of ongoing difficulties, inspiration and hope emerge when she forms a lasting friendship with an older, eccentric woman named Pinky. As she slowly learns to let go of the clutter in her home and in her mind, Grace regains confidence and the courage to love.

Also with Eric Bana (The dryness), Kodi Smith-McPhee (The power of the dog) and Jacki Weaver (silver linings Playbook), Memoirs of a Snail was produced by Elliot and Liz Kearney and the executive producers were Robert Connolly and Robert Patterson. Produced by Arenamedia, the project received major production investment from Screen Australia in collaboration with Anton and Charades. It was developed and produced in collaboration with VicScreen and funded with support from Soundfirm, Mind the Gap Finance, Jameker, Shadowlane and the Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund.

Additional territories will be sold jointly by Charades from Paris and Anton from London.

I’m thrilled they will work together to bring Grace’s melancholy story to film lovers who love to laugh and cry at the same time.”

Shooman negotiated the deal for IFC Films, with Carole Baraton of Charades and Louis Balsan of Anton representing the filmmakers.
