“He is Under Enormous Pressure.” Rashid Latif Condemns Body Shaming of Azam Khan and Defends the Youngster

The T20 World Cup has seen excellence from the very beginning. All teams are fighting hard to reach the final goal. In this highly exciting situation, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Azam Khan is in the spotlight. The young player is facing intense body shaming. From journalists to former players, everyone is criticizing the wicketkeeper-batter. Veteran Pakistani cricketer Rashid Latif has come to Azam Khan’s defense and criticised those who have been mocking and body shaming him recently. Latif condemned the trolls and showed support for the under-fire player.

Rashid Latif supported Azam Khan:

The war for the T20 World Cup has begun. All teams are trying their best to reach their final goal. Before starting in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan played a T20 series against England. It was a disaster for them. During that tour, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan was heavily criticized. In the T20 series against England, he did not play well and was not flexible behind the stumps. Cricket fans started bashing the Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter on social media for his body after he put up a difficult performance against England where he struggled behind the wickets and missed several balls.

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has defended Azam Khan and criticised those who have mocked him and body shamed him. He said, “He is under immense pressure. He is shamed and mocked because of his body. Azam is an exceptional batsman in T20s. He bats cleanly, plays spinners well and has worked on his game against the pacers. I feel sorry for the boy, he is only 25. He doesn’t deserve to be mocked like that.”

Suggestion for Rizwan as wicketkeeper:

Pakistan has announced its T20 World Cup after announcing all the teams. Babar Azam is back as the team leader. They are preparing well for the tournament. Mohammad Rizwan is also in the team. He has a good track record behind the stumps for the nation. Rashid Latif recommended that Pakistan should give the role of wicketkeeper to Mohammad Rizwan as he feels that he is superior to Azam Khan.

The former Pakistan player said, “Rizwan is Pakistan’s best wicketkeeper and has been a fighter for this team. Wicketkeepers run the game from behind the goal posts. It’s not just about DRS, but also the other aspects of the game. Now he is playing in the deep field, which is wrong.”

He later added: “Babar lacks the captaincy, he needs Rizwan and if Rizwan is not Pakistan’s goalkeeper, Pakistan will struggle in the World Cup.”
