“He is Suffering From…” – BCB Provides a Worrying Update on Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan He was diagnosed with retinal disease in his left eye and his eye problem started during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Shakib consulted various ophthalmologists in Bangladesh and around the world and after several rounds of examinations, it was found that Shakib had an infection with the retina of his left eye eye.

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Shakib Al Hasan revealed the problems he had with his eyes and played with blurred vision during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

This affected Shakib’s performance during the tournament. Shakib Al Hasan had said: “It’s not in one or two games of the World Cup, but I had it (the eye problem) throughout the World Cup. “It could have happened, I was very uncomfortable before the ball.”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has now released a medical update on Shakib Al Hasan. According to the update, Shakib has been confirmed to be suffering from extrafoveal central serous chorioretinopathy or CSR. The update also added that a conservative approach will be taken to resolve the issue.

The BCB’s chief physician, Dr. Debashis Chowdhary said: “Shakib complains of subtle problems with his left eye. After consultation with ophthalmologists in Bangladesh and abroad and several eye examinations, it was confirmed that he was suffering from extrafoveal central serous chorioretinopathy (CSR) of the left eye.

“It was decided to take a conservative approach to deal with the problem for now. Extrafoveal central serous chorioretinopathy is a disease that affects the retina and causes vision problems. The medical team managing Shakib’s case is optimistic that they will be able to effectively treat the condition with a conservative approach.”

Shakib Al Hasan could score only 186 runs at an average of 26.57 from seven matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Bangladesh put in a forgettable performance in the tournament, finishing eighth with just two wins from nine matches.

Shakib Al Hasan also made a lot of headlines in the run-up to the tournament because of his conflict with former captain Tamim Iqbal. Tamim withdrew his name from the ODI World Cup as he did not want to play in the middle order. Iqbal also made a U-turn after his international retirement in mid-2023 and also stepped down from the ODI captaincy.

Shakib Al Hasan stated before the ODI World Cup that Tamim Iqbal’s behavior was childish and that he would learn to play for the team. Shakib also stated that Tamim will learn from Rohit Sharma and believes that he is a selfless player.

Shakib Al Hasan is currently part of the Bangladesh Premier League and plays for Rangpur Riders for an amount of 40 crore Bangladesh Rupee. The Riders are currently 3rd in the BPL 2024 points table with one win from two games.

Shakib Al Hasan played only 1 match in the tournament and managed to score only 2 runs.
