Grey’s Anatomy Star Midori Francis is Leaving After Two Seasons

Midori Francis supposedly supposed to go Grey’s Anatomy after two seasons of the medical drama.

Francis, 30, is in negotiations to return for season 21 to complete her character Mika Yasuda’s story. deadline reported on Wednesday, May 15th. However, she will no longer be a series regular after season 20, currently airing on ABC.

Us weekly has reached out to ABC for comment.

Francis joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy for the 19th season in 2022. At the time, she was one of five newcomers who portrayed a new generation of interns at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital Alexis Floyd (Simone Griffith), Harry Shum Jr. (Benson “Blue Kwan”) Adelaide Kane (Jules Millin) and Lucas Adams (Niko Terho).

“It was a big deal back in prime time to see an Asian actor on screen who didn’t just have a few lines but was a big part of the plot and was so chaotic,” she said.

“I re-watched some of them [Grey’s Anatomy], and she’s just so driven and fierce and skilled,” Francis said of Oh, 52, who played Cristina Yang in seasons 1 through 10. “I remember when I was younger she was a lot of my friends’ favorite character, and that was so cool to me. That’s honestly a big part of my connection to the show.”

The ABC series has undergone numerous cast changes over the years. The only remaining original cast members are Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber) and Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Gray).

After the tour Grey’s Anatomy Since the series premiered in 2005, season 19 marked the first time that Pompeo, 54, reduced her involvement in the series.

ABC announced the news last month Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for season 21.
