Golf Pro Rory McIlroy Calls off Divorce from Erica Stoll

Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll have called off their divorce.

Less than a month after the 35-year-old professional golfer filed for divorce after seven years of marriage Stoll, 36, the couple has resolved their issues and asked a Florida court to dismiss the divorce suit. The couple have one child together, 3-year-old Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, who was born in August 2020.

In a statement to The guard On Tuesday, the Northern Irish native confirmed that he had requested that the case be dropped and said that after careful consideration and review, they had decided to resolve their issues together.

“Over the last few weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future is a family together. Thankfully, we have put aside our differences and are looking forward to a fresh start,” McIlroy told the outlet.

ET contacted representatives of the 26-time PGA Tour winner on Tuesday.

In May, a spokesperson for McIlroy confirmed to ET that the athlete had indeed filed paperwork to end his marriage to the New York native, more than a decade after the two first met at the Ryder Cup.

“Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that the divorce has been filed,” a statement obtained by ET said. “They stressed Rory’s desire to make this difficult time as respectful and amicable as possible. He will have no further comment.”

When the two met in 2012, McIlroy was dating tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki. The former couple were briefly engaged but ended their relationship in 2014, allowing McIlroy and Stoll to begin a relationship. Three years later, the couple married in Ireland and hosted guests including Niall Horan, Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran and others.

News of the rekindled romance between McIlroy and Stoll comes just days before the start of the US Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The tournament will take place from June 13th to 16th and McIlroy is considered one of the favorites to win. According to CBS SportsMcIlroy’s chances of winning the title are only lower than those of the world’s leading tennis player Scottie Scheffler.

Although McIlroy arrived in North Carolina earlier this week to prepare, it is still unclear whether Stoll and her young daughter will be there to cheer him on.
